Happy Labor Day Weekend from StoreYourBoard

Wishing you and your family a happy Labor Day Weekend from the crew here at StoreYourBoard!

Labor Day was created to celebrate the economic and social contributions of workers in the U.S.  Today, it's also come to signify the end of the summer season.  This is great news to our ski and snowboarding fans that winter is on its way.  But our wakeboarding fans (at least those who don't live in Florida) are bummed out.  Fall and winter waves are better than summer waves on the east coast, so the surfers definitely aren't complaining.

I expect that most of our fans have mastered the various board sports so they have a sport (or a thick wetsuit) for every season.  Ride on!

Surf Trips: What to Do When it's Flat...(Part 1)

By Andrew Sachs
So you've planned the best surf trip. You researched the spot and picked the time when it always gets the best swell. You know you have the most killer surf trip planned. And then you get there, and…it’s flat. Well even Hawaii gets flat.  The point is if you go on surf trips, you will inevitably be faced with days when there're no waves. Or worse, you land and the swell is so big that guys are towing in.  You might not be ready for that. So you have to find something else to do.

Best Bike Storage: Garage Storage Options

By Andrew Sachs
If you're looking for bike storage options for your garage, we've got you covered.  We know bikes can be an expensive investment and it's important to protect that investment and keep them in top condition by storing your bikes safely and securely out of harm's way.  Don't just lean your bicycle up against the wall where someone - you, your kids, your dog, whoever - will knock it over, bump into it, ding it, or worse.

Ceiling Bike Hoist: a great option to utilize the space above your head to keep your bike completely out of the way, but easily and quickly accessible when you need it.  The hoist can lift your bike up to 12 feet, so this works even with very high ceilings.  The two pulley system means it's no problem to lift and release heavy bikes and the locking mechanism ensures your bike is stable when it's stored up high.

Ace Buchan Conquers Teahupo'o and the Billabong Pro Tahiti

By Andrew Sachs
Mick Fanning and Kelly Slater came into the Billabong Pro Tahiti sitting 1-2 in the standings, with each surfer looking to separate himself from the pack to kick off the second half of the season.  And while each of the former world champs surfed well, each fell victim to a red-hot Ace Buchan in succession in the semis and finals, as Ace picked up his second WCT win ever, and first since 2008.

Wakeboarding | Rockstar WWA World Championships

By Andrew Sachs
The Rockstar WWA World Championships jumps off starting today, August 15, and running through Sunday, August 18.  All the action will be at Prairie Spring Park in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.  The event features over 200 of the world's best pro and amateur, male and female, wakeboarders and wakeskaters, and is always an action packed weekend.  Big names competing include Phil Soven, Harley Clifford, Rusty Malinoski and Austin Hair.

Prairie Springs Park is a great setup for the Rockstar event, an over 400 acre park around Lake Andrea, which itself is over 100 acres.  The Pros will be blasting off the wake of the Worlds Edition Supra SA550, giving plenty of boost for huge maneuvers.

Surf Racks for Pickup Trucks

By Andrew Sachs
You need a surfboard rack for your pickup truck.  I've seen way too many trucks riding with surfboards tossed into their bed or leaning up against the tailgate with no protection, bouncing around and getting dinged up.  Maybe some trucks slip a towel under the boards for "protection."  We've got a simple surfboard truck rack for this situation: a support pad fits over your tailgate that you lean your boards on with a strap on top that locks your boards in place so they stay secured in place and protected.

What to Wear Skiing: Dressing Warm, Staying Safe, and Looking Good on the Ski Slopes

Typically we don’t tend to associate skiing gear with looking great.  In order to stay warm enough while you're out on the slopes, and padded enough to protect from inevitable wipeouts, you end up looking like a fluorescent version of the Stay Puft marshmallow man.

But the fact is that when you’re skiing there’s more to looking good than simply knowing how to ski. There are a vast array of styles and looks available if you take the time to browse, from down-filled puffer jackets to layering systems, venting zips and wrist gaiters.  The amount of thought that goes into most ski-wear these days is like that of early space suits.  Instead of looking like you’re fresh out of an 80s music video, think carefully about just what you’re going to be looking like on the slopes, including the colors, textures and cut of your outfits.

Billabong Pro Tahiti: Teahupoo Preview, August 15-26

By Andrew Sachs
The Billabong Pro Tahiti leads off the second half of the WCT season, with 5 of 10 events already completed, and familiar faces at the top of the standings.  Mick Fanning, Kelly Slater, Joel Parkinson - ever heard of 'em?  Of course, these guys have combined to win the last 8 world titles.  Parko's win at the last event, in Bali, jumped him up to third in his quest for a repeat title, but he's still got work to do to catch Mick and Kelly, who are neck and neck at 1 and 2.  Although Kelly has won 2 events and Mick's won none, Mick has been Mr. Consistent, making the quarterfinals in every event.
