Winter Mountain Music Festivals for 2015

By: Rachel Novosad
Everyone knows you gotta have a great playlist ready to go for a day of skiing or riding. I love my Spotify just as much as the next person, but from time to time you should consider taking out those earbuds and listening to some live music instead! Summer isn’t the only time for great concerts and music festivals, Old Man Winter has some pretty great acts lined up for you this season. Better yet, they’re conveniently at ski mountains!
So pack your snowboard bags – here is a sampling of some great acts coming your way. (And be sure to check your local or destination mountain’s event calendar for more!) Once you're there, tag us in all your pics @storeyourboard

10 Songs for Your Ski or Snowboard Playlist

If you are anything like me, you may not be able to deal with the quiet that comes along with boarding. As long as I can remember, I’ve never been satisfied with most athletic activities unless there has been music involved as well. This has driven me to a state of spending a (sometimes ridiculously) long time contemplating the playlist I will load before I head out for the day. It seems to be well understood that having your headphones in and music blaring can make you unaware of what is going on around you, but it can also keep you engaged in what you are trying to focus on.The right song at the right moment can make your day (or season).

Bad Things and Shaun White | Snowboarder Turned Rocker

By: Brad McNally

Nearly everyone has heard of Shaun White by now, but many may not have heard of Bad Things. Shaun White is the guitarist, and the rest of the band is made up of singer Davis LeDuke, bassist Jared Palomar, guitarist Anthony Sanudo, and drummer Lena Zawaideh. They released a self titled debut album in early 2014 and it is available for streaming on Spotify, but what does this mean for the snowboarding career of guitarist Shaun White?

Fading West: Music and Surfing with Switchfoot

By Rick Bickerstaff

It was another boring day at work, punching the keyboard and staring at my screen. But then I received an email about one of my favorite bands, Switchfoot, on tour to support their new album, Fading West. It turns out they wrote the album while also making a movie of the same title, so I watched the trailer and something about it put a spark in my mundane day that could not be denied.

Surfing and Music | History and Culture

By Rick Bickerstaff

There's nothing quite like driving up the Pacific Coast Highway and listening to Jack Johnson to me; or riding with friends to a foreign break, jamming to Sublime as we anticipate the unknown session ahead. Music and surfing go hand in hand, and so I thought I'd examine the sounds of surfing as a little history lesson, and to inspire your next ride out to the beach.

A parody of surf music from the film "Top Secret!"

Music is a tricky thing in that it's tough to pin down where a certain genre began, usually starting in some hole-in-the-wall club where another artist hears it and then makes it popular. As far as we know, one of the major pioneers of surf rock is Dick Dale, who claimed that signature lead guitar sound found in his most popular tune, "Miserlou."

Music Monday I Get Pumped For The Summer

Ah, Monday...Another start to another week...Why not mix it up with some new/different tunes??

I was rooting around my itunes and came up with this "get pumped for the summer" playlist - some newer songs mixed in with some classics. Great for working on that fitness and getting in shape to hit the beach...Never too early to start thinking about being on the beach, right??

StoreYourBoard does the Firefly Music Festival!

This past weekend, StoreYourBoard trekked up to Dover, Delaware for the inaugural Firefly Music Festival.  Firefly was held on the grounds of the Dover International Speedway, which hosts an annual Nascar race, so the site was primed for hosting a huge group of people.  And the site didn't disappoint.  From the tons of tents and camping spaces, to the 4 stages with constant performances, to the Dogfish Head Brewery on site, the place had it all.  The weather looked like it could rain to put a damper on the weekend, but the rain held off but also kept it less than the 90+ temps that have been hitting the east coast this summer.  The weather was perfect for an outdoor festival.

Here is a picture of our camp set up, repping the USA:

Here we are entering the grounds for the first time on Friday night.  Can't wait for the 2013 festival already...

Modest Mouse getting ready to rock on Saturday afternoon:

This is from Apartment by Young the Giant.  My Body was definitely their best song of the set - the place was bumping!

The Killers know how to put on a show! Played all their hits, dumped confetti, shot off fireworks, did it all!

Yes, that is the lead singer from the Flaming Lips inside that blow up ball rolling around on top of the crowd.  Not even the craziest thing they did either.

We went to more shows and took more pictures and videos but there are beyond too many to post.  It's almost unfair not to mention the other shows we saw including The Black Keys, Girl Talk, Group Love, The Silversun Pickups, Death Cab, Tinie Tempah, J Roddy Ralston and the Business, and the Imagine Dragons.  If you didn't make it to Dover this past weekend, you missed an unreal set of shows.  But there is always next year.  We will be there again for sure.

Music Playlist | The Perfect Playlist for Your Perfect Ride

Music is essential for most riders in order to perform well at competitions—no matter the sport.  Listening to the right pump up music is a key element to get a rider’s blood flowing and heart rate going to have the time of their life.  Many riders have even admitted that if their music is off, they won’t have a good run.  Whether it is underground hip-hop to hard rock, each song has the same job: ready the rider for their performance.  Here is my latest playlist that hasn’t let me down yet.
