The 2014 Fiji Pro runs this June 1 through June 13 at Tavarua, Fiji, with the site of the competition varying between Cloudbreak and Restaurants depending on the swell conditions. The Fiji Pro is the 5th stop on the WCT Tour for 2014.
Entering the Fiji Pro, Kelly Slater sits atop the WCT standings, followed by Taj Burrow, Joel Parkinson, Michel Bourez, and Gabriel Medina. Last year's champ, Mick Fanning, has struggled in the early part of the season, and is in 8th place after an early elimination at the last event, the Billabong Rio Pro.
John John Florence hasn't worked his way near the top of the standings this year - yet - but he is one to watch at the Fiji Pro as he has shown that he is as comfortable out at Cloudbreak and/or Restaurants as he is at Pipe. Last year he put on a huge performance at Fiji, with a couple of 19+ point heats...until he ran into Kelly Slater in the semifinals and came crashing back to Earth.
Of course, Fiji is one of Kelly's most successful events of all time, and this year comes into Fiji as two-time defending event champ, having won at Fiji in 2013 and 2012. Last year, he used his win at the Fiji Pro to jump up into first place overall. This year, he could use a win at the Fiji Pro to put some separation between himself at the top and the rest of the field, as he continues his revenge tour to get back the world title that was unjustly stolen from him last year at Pipe.
